Muscat to Doha on a budget
Doha packs a lot into a compact, walkable core: a seven-kilometre Corniche, one of the region’s best museums, and Souq Waqif’s evening buzz. With a cheap flat-fare metro connecting the airport to almost everything, it is one of the Gulf’s easiest city breaks to do on a sensible budget.

Worth your rials
- The Corniche at sunset: seven kilometres of skyline waterfront, completely free.
- Souq Waqif in the evening — wander the alleys, the falcon souq, and the karak cafés.
- The Museum of Islamic Art’s park and waterfront (free), with the museum itself worth its ticket.
- Katara Cultural Village and its public beach promenade.
Good to know
- The Doha Metro runs from the airport across the city on a flat fare of a few riyals; a day pass costs less than a single taxi ride.
- Stay around Msheireb or Al Sadd: central, metro-connected, and noticeably cheaper than West Bay towers.
- Skip July and August unless your plans are entirely indoors; winter evenings are the city at its best.
Common questions
- How much is a 3-night Doha trip from Muscat?
- For two people, plan from roughly 420 OMR: return flights from ~45 OMR each, a mid-range double from ~25 OMR a night, and about 32 OMR per person per day for food, transport, and tickets.
- Do Omanis need a visa for Qatar?
- No. GCC citizens enter Qatar without a visa. Expat residents of Oman should check Qatar’s Hayya portal for their nationality’s rules.
- Is Doha walkable?
- In winter, genuinely yes: the Corniche, Souq Waqif, and Msheireb form a pleasant connected stretch. In summer, plan around the metro and indoor stops instead.
